Yesterday (March 9) on Roger's TV The Parenting Show, we had guest Susanne Eden, author and educational consultant on our show. Her recent book Play Works explains the importance of play. I urge both parents and early years educators read what Susanne has to say about the process of play, what different types of play means, how to create a good playscape and how to support play, since unknowingly parents or teachers inadvertently can stifle it by the ways they join in.

I agree. Play is important developmentally and in so many ways. These days kids are growing up so fast and being shuffled to and fro that they don't even get a chance to play.
Therefore, I created a big list for my daughter a few years back. I ended up with over 700 things she could do (play) when she found herself bored. I didn't know what to do with it, so a few weeks ago I made a website: www.itsallkidsplay.ca and on my blog, I feature one activity a day: www.itsallkidsplay.blogspot.com . My 5-year-old and I have a lot of fun doing the activities together. :)
